Weight loss is hard. Keeping it off is harder. Certain habits and coping mechanisms could help. In a study funded by WW (formerly Weight Watchers), researchers surveyed the strategies of 4,786 middle-aged adults, mostly women, who had maintained a weight loss of at least 20 pounds for a year or more. How did they do it? Keeping a food diary, setting daily calorie goals, stepping on the scale at least once a week, and being willing to ignore cravings helped keep the weight off. Try one—or all—of these strategies to improve your chances for success.
